God bless the UST

Yeah...so I am a little late on this but we haven't had Showtime till this week. The United States of Tara is a fantastic show created by the talented Diablo Cody (Juno). This isn't so much about the show itself but about the title sequence. I find the opening sequence to be excellent. The pop-up book stop motion and the delightful blip of a song set you up for the way the show plays out. Contrast, Through the chaos and commotion created by her altertinate personalities theres an upbeat, uplifting pop song (the family) to help you and let you know "we'll be just fine".
The man responsible for the animation is Jamie Caliri and while I am not familiar with this name or any other stop motion animator other than Tim Burton (who Jamie has worked with), he has delivered a wonderfully creative title. The song which does it for me is by Tim Delaugher. You may know him by a different moniker The Polyphonic Spree. Though the song comes in under a minute you can't help but feel the effects of his nasaly almost child like voice. The lyrics are a simple declaration to just sit back, everything will be alright, if you just "enjoy the ride".

The broc is strong with this one.

Watch it. Fool of goofy star wars referencing tom-foolery. Kristen Bell also appears in a Princess Leia bikini. I'm a sucker for these types of movies - just a fun buddy movie. The cameo and supporting roles are played by familiar faces. Watching this movie just to see who is going to pop up is worth it alone.

Get to know...

What is this a picture of? Wrong! While this dude definitely needs some styling techniques, this is not a photo still from Bio-Dome 2: Global Munchies. This is in fact a photo of Dave Eggers. Are you still clueless? Well Dave here writes books, screen plays, edits an online magazine, and runs a non-profit tutoring center in conjunction with a pirate supply store (don't tell the Somalian pirates - not a baseball team).

I have up to this point read one and a quarter books of this mans work. The first one being A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and the second being You Shall Know Our Velocity. His writing provides a fresh voice to literature and one that is able to keep me interested enough to continue reading. That can not be easily said for other authors. AHWOSG offers a glimpse into what it was like for Eggers at the age 21 to raise his brother age 8. YSHKOV is about a man ,Will, who comes into money but for one reason or another decides to travel around the world in a week and give away the money along with his friend Hand (thats all I got on this one, just started reading it). You should read these books but don't take my word for it ( I gave what felt like a Reading Rainbow review so it needed a RR ending. Miss you Lavar)

Now the main reason he has me all excited is that there are two movies coming out that he has written/co-written the screen play for. First Away We Go starring John Krasinski (Jim from the office) and Maya Rudolph (SNL, Idiocracy). John and Maya play a young couple expecting their first child and the cross-country journey they take in order to find a place to raise the young one. Second Where the Wild Things Are ( Eggers is also writing a nevel inspired by the book) and if you have not seen the trailer - it is one epic (and I try very hard not to use that word) trailer. They don't use much dialog during the trailer but if it's as good as his other work then there should be no let down.

Broc Rockin' Beats

This album here has the distinguished honor of being the first to be featured here on Droppin' Brocs.
The band goes by The Dangerous Summer and the title of the album is Reach for the Sun. Out of the (too) many cds that I have recently purchased over the last month, this one has stuck out. That's not saying the other ones were bad its that this one is that good. TDS play a great brand of pop/punk and I'm not talking about guys in neon who could be Cyndi Lauper's children singing "my girlfriend left me for the cool guy who works at the mall" type stuff. Reach for the Sun comes in a complete package of strong lyrics and mature at that - for how relatively young they are, vocals that are true and strong (there's that word again), hooks...um yes, and the muscianship that is top notch. After spinning RFTS everyday over the last month I will hopefully be seeing these guys in July so be sure and give 'em a listen.

Hope everyone (anyone?) had a good Memorial Day! Received the Alrightok shirts that I ordered over the weekend (unlike the two cds I won/purchased on Ebay). You may recognize them from "Brocs of the Walk" feature and if you haven't gone to their site to check out the shirts or their podcast -do it now. In the coming future I will probably spend some time talking at length about them so take some time to acquaint yourselves. Watched the new Terminator, found it to be entertaining. The end.

Coming together...slowly but surely

Added a new gadget, "Brocs of the Walk" these are a few sites that i enjoy. I am finding out that blogging is not at as east as once thought but I am trying. There are a few ideas kicking around in the think tank and will hopefully get to those soon. We are but a young sprout of a blog and we can only grow.

Introduction

This is my first attempt at all things blogging. I suppose that this should lead off with a little bit about who I am. Well my name is Kyle, currently the age of 24 and the reason I've decided to do this is merely for fun. You know post things I find or that someone has led me too that are interesting and on the rare occasion voice my distaste for things.

About that name "Droppin' Brocs" - what does it mean?

1)Its a long story about an underwear-less kid, some broccoli and a friend who thought i was talking about pooping.

2)Broccoli to me looks like a brain, so lets think of Broccoli as the vegetable of knowledge.

Guess what I'm trying to say is that I will be either talking shit or in a way dropping some knowledge.

It will also be a goal of mine to spiffy up the site but in due time.
